Buying and licenses

Is there a free version?

There's one KelpShot, and the download is the full app. Every feature is free for 30 days, with no account and nothing to pay. After that it keeps working and shows a reminder about once a week; a license ($8.99 once) removes the reminder.

What happens after the 30-day trial?

Nothing is locked. KelpShot keeps every feature and shows a small reminder about once a week. A license removes the reminder and supports development.

Is KelpShot a subscription?

No. You pay once and keep the version you bought forever, including every 1.x update.

How many Macs can I use?

A license is for one person on up to 2 Macs they own. Keys are checked on your Mac, with no activation server: enter the key on the Macs you use, and remove it from one you no longer use (Settings ▸ Remove License) before adding another.

What's the difference between Personal and Supporter?

Both unlock every feature with no reminders, on up to 2 Macs, with every 1.x update. Supporter ($18.99) adds your logo, name, and a link on the supporters page and priority email support, and helps KelpShot grow.

What does "early access" mean?

KelpShot hasn't reached version 1.0 yet. It's the same full app, updated often on its way to 1.0, and a license bought now includes every 1.x update.

Who sells KelpShot?

Orders are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our reseller and Merchant of Record, who handles payment, invoices, and sales tax. Your license key appears right after payment, and the button in your receipt email brings you back to it. Tips on Ko-fi are gifts, not purchases.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase. See the refund policy.

Installing and updating

How do I install KelpShot?

Download it from the install page, drag it to Applications, and open it. When macOS asks for Screen Recording, turn KelpShot on and reopen it.

Is KelpShot signed by Apple?

Yes. From version 0.1.6, KelpShot is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app: the first time, macOS only asks you to confirm opening an app from the internet. Versions 0.1.5 and earlier weren't signed; if you have one, get the new version from the install guide. License sales paid the $99 fee.

How do I update KelpShot?

KelpShot tells you when a new version is out (KelpShot ▸ Check for Updates…). Download it and replace the app in Applications; your settings and license are kept.

Does KelpShot run on Intel Macs?

No. KelpShot runs on Apple silicon (M1 or newer) with macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Privacy and permissions

Does KelpShot need an internet connection?

No. Capturing, editing, text recognition, exporting, and entering a license key all work offline. The only connection KelpShot makes is a check of kelpshot.app for a newer version: once a day if you allow it (KelpShot asks first), or when you choose Check for Updates. It sends nothing about you, and you can change it in Settings.

Which permissions does KelpShot need?

Screen Recording, so it can capture your screen. macOS asks once; KelpShot never records audio or video. Scrolling capture by dragging to the screen edge and Auto scroll also need Accessibility, and KelpShot asks only when you use them.
