KelpShot
In short: KelpShot works on your Mac. KelpShot never sends your screenshots, recognized text, or clipboard contents anywhere. We only receive what is needed to sell and activate your license.

What the KelpShot app processes
- Screenshots and edits are created and kept on your Mac. They stay in memory until you copy, save, or drag them out, and are never uploaded.
- Text and QR recognition runs on-device using Apple's Vision framework.
- Settings (shortcuts, save folder, export format) are stored locally in macOS preferences.
- Diagnostics: KelpShot writes events, image sizes, and error codes to the macOS system log on your Mac. They never include images, recognized text, or clipboard contents, and are shared only if you export and send them to us yourself.
Licenses
KelpShot checks license keys on your Mac. It doesn't contact a server to activate or verify them, and it never sends screenshots or personal files anywhere.
What KelpShot stores on your Mac
- Your settings, in macOS preferences: shortcuts, save folder, export format, after-capture action, and the location of your last export (so Reopen Last Export works).
- Your license key, in the same preferences. The key itself contains the name and email the license was issued to; Remove License deletes it.
- While you drag an image out of KelpShot, the file lives in a private temporary folder of your user account. These files are removed when KelpShot quits, and any left over are removed at the next launch.
- Exported diagnostics start with your Mac model, macOS version, and processor type, followed by the event log described above.
Everything above stays on your Mac. KelpShot never reads it back to us.
Donations
Donations are handled by Ko-fi under its own privacy policy; we receive the name, amount, and message you choose to share. If you give us your email (in the donation message or by writing to us), we use it only to thank you and to send the Supporter license we promised, never for marketing, and we don't share it. We keep it until the thank-you and license have been sent, and in any case no longer than one year after your donation, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
The supporters page shows only the name and link you ask us to show, never your email or the amount. If you don't tell us how to appear, you're listed as "Anonymous supporter". Write to us at any time to change or remove your entry.
Purchases
License checkout is not open yet. When it opens, orders will be processed by Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC), our Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email, billing country, and payment details to process the payment and sales tax, and shares your name, email, and order details with us so we can provide your license and support. Card details are handled by Lemon Squeezy and its payment processors and are never visible to us. See the Lemon Squeezy privacy policy.
This website
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your browser, and does not follow you across sites; it gives us only aggregate numbers (page views, referrers, countries, browsers). You can block it with any content blocker and the site works the same. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability.
How we use and keep your information
We use purchase details only to deliver and support your license, handle refunds, and meet legal and tax obligations. We do not sell or rent personal information and do not send marketing email without your consent. We keep order records for as long as required by law and support emails for as long as needed to help you.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or Indonesia), you may have additional rights under local data-protection law.
Children
KelpShot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, note it on this website.
